ABSTRACT
Inflammation plays a key role in the onset and progression of heart failure (HF) after myocardial infarction (MI), which represents one of the leading causes of mortality in patients with cardiovascular disease. This review summarizes the inflammatory mechanisms involved at different stages of HF after MI, including the infiltration and activation of inflammatory cells, the release of inflammatory mediators, and the effects of these mediators on cardiomyocytes, the extracellular matrix, and cardiac function. In addition, this review discusses therapeutic strategies that target inflammatory pathways, providing a theoretical basis for the prevention and treatment of HF after MI.
