ABSTRACT

The aim of the study was to evaluate the regional clinical and epidemiological features of COPD in elderly and senile patients living in the Rostov region. A retrospective analysis of 1337 outpatient records and medical records of elderly and senile COPD patients was conducted. The following were analyzed: gender, level of education, the influence of risk factors on the development of the disease, anamnestic data, the severity of dyspnea according to the mMRc scale, quality of life according to the CAT scale, the number and severity of exacerbations, functional changes in the bronchopulmonary system and the presence of concomitant diseases. An increase in the prevalence of COPD with age in male smokers and a relationship between the development of the pathology in women and residence in a regional center have been established. Significant features of COPD in the Rostov region were severe course with frequent exacerbations, high prevalence of comorbid cardiovascular pathology and concomitant malignant neoplasms of the bronchopulmonary system. The analysis of the obtained data indicates the need to take into account the regional characteristics of the course of COPD in elderly and senile patients in order to increase the effectiveness of measures to prevent the development and progression of the disease.
