ABSTRACT

Type 2 diabetes mellitus and obesity constitute major global public health concerns, with their incidence continuing to rise worldwide. These metabolic conditions are closely interrelated and commonly coexist, exerting a synergistic impact on cardiovascular morbidity and mortality. The interplay between diabetes, obesity, and atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease has become a focal point of research, as elucidating their pathophysiological underpinnings and prognostic implications is crucial for establishing effective prevention and treatment approaches. Beyond their established effects on weight reduction and glycemic regulation, GLP-1RAs and GIP/GLP-1RAs, emerging pharmacological classes targeting obesity and diabetes, have demonstrated significant impact on atherosclerotic processes and cardiovascular outcomes Keywords: atherosclerosis, obesity, type 2 diabetes mellitus, GLP1-RAs, GIP/GLP1-RAs.
