ABSTRACT
Among the highly diseased population of participants with chronic coronary syndromes and obstructive coronary artery disease enrolled in the ISCHEMIA trial, women had lower burden of total, calcified, non-calcified plaque and adverse plaque characteristics on CCTA compared with men. However, the risk associated with greater atherosclerotic burden was higher among females for the composite outcome of CV death or MI than males. These findings highlight important sex-specific differences in the prognostic value of coronary atherosclerotic burden and support the need to explore differential approaches to cardiovascular risk stratification in men and women.
